School Canteen Certification Program
Workshop “Role of Stakeholders for School Canteen and Certification Mechanism”
24th May 2017
One main program of SEAMEO RECFON is Nutrition Goes to School. As part of that, SEAMEO RECFON recognizes that availability of healthy school canteen is very important in providing safe and nutritious food for school children. This is in line with National Education Standard which is mentioned that every school should have at least one room aimed for school canteen. However, based on NAFDC data, 40% of school did not have canteen, while 35.5% among them were not adequate with the standard (2007). Thus, standardization of school canteen through school canteen certification turns out to be essential.
The need of school canteen certification was formally discussed in the workshop on “Role of Stakeholders for School Canteen and Certification Mechanism”, 24th May 2017. SEAMEO RECFON facilitates this workshop where almost all government institutions at Provincial level and National level including Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Health and National Agency for Food and Drug Control were attended the workshop.
Based on studies and series of meeting with institution related with school canteen in Jakarta, SEAMEO RECFON would like to have a pilot area, to implement this “school canteen certification program”. Senen sub district, one of sub district in DKI Jakarta Province, was chosen to be the pilot area.
